Basket Making

Students will explore a variety of possibilities and ways to make a basic ribbed basket. Beginning and intermediate students will concentrate on developing their individual skills, creating functional baskets. Student will work on a individual basis and will be making several baskets of different types

Barbara Chapman Sox was introduced to the traditional Appalachian style of basket making at Regional home extension workshop in the early 80's. She attended Penland School of crafts where she explored various types of materials and the infinite possibilities and styles of basket making. She has received her BS degree in Industrial Technology with a concentration in Crafts from Appalachian. Basket weaving has become her full time occupation.
