Paper Basket Making

This class will include all types of baskets, square to round, paper, egg, sculture style, etc. We
will use various types of materials such as basketry reed, paper, and vines. Materials will be
provided, however you are encouraged to bring interesting items to enhance your weavings, such
as beads, buttons, found materials, wire, etc. Be creative and come ready to have fun and explore
three dimensional weaving.

Barbara Chapman Sox was introduced to the traditional Appalachian style of basket making at Regional home extension workshop in the early 80's. She attended Penland School of crafts where she explored various types of materials and the infinite possibilities and styles of basket making. She has received her BS degree in Industrial Technology with a concentration in Crafts from Appalachian. Basket weaving has become her full time occupation.
